Friends of Morocco Moroccan-American Friendship tour Nov 3-10, 2001
Announcement

Friends of Morocco in cooperation with Casablanca Travel and Tours announces a very inexpensive trip to Morocco to demonstrate Moroccan-American friendship.  Press coverage will be organized to show the Moroccan travel industry is open for business.  Cost per person double occupancy will be $675 including round trip airfare from New York to Casablanca.  Single supplement is $185.  Doubles (same sex) can be arranged.  Six nights in four and five star hotels, two meals a day, full-time dedicated bus, English-speaking guide, all entrance fees. More information is on the Friends of Morocco website http://morocco.home.att.net/Souk/tour.htm and at Casablanca Travel and Tours www.moroccotravelandtours.com and

Says Barbara Durr, Peace Corps Morocco Director “I think this is a great idea and I have passed a copy of your e-mail to Jack McCreary who is happy to help with press on this end.  The new Ambassador, Margaret Tutwiler would love to meet with the group if you do come and she "thinks it sounds great".  As you might imagine, things are pretty hectic here now as we are in the middle of PST (training) with swearing-in in Ouarzazate on October 23rd.  Hopefully, we'll have 73 new PCVs soon.”

Casablanca Travel and Tours has, like much of the travel industry, has had some cancellations from the US, has made refunds, but still has contracts with hotels and can, therefore, put together a very inexpensive trip to Morocco for Friends of Morocco (and friends).  First come up to 40 people, at this price and itinerary.  Opportunity for site visits from bases in Fez and Marrakesh during tour in addition to extensions.  People could extend trip with no additional airline charge.  RAM now flies Saturday and Tuesday to NY.  Travel on other dates and circuits can be arranged, though not at this price.  Call or email Casablanca Travel and Tours now to make a reservation.  $250 deposit refundable if the tour is canceled.  Commercial fares are now below the contract fares of Royal Air Maroc and Casablanca Travel and Tours so you can book your travel to New York JFK with the travel agent or airline of your choice. Reservation needs to be in the exact name as it appears in the passport.

Several goals.  Tour would help Casablanca Travel and Tours capture some lost deposits due to cancellations and keep people working during a crunch period.  Good press would help the tourist industry recover.  Remind people that Morocco is an ally, and the diversity of the Arab world and Islam.  This is an opportunity for FOM members (and their families and friends), who can get free at the beginning of next month and can get quickly (or already have) a passport, to get to Morocco on the cheap, share the political message and re-start the tourism economy, return to their work sites, or see their relatives serving in Peace Corps/Morocco.  Participants should be willing to be interviewed and work with press coverage.  Maybe tell their stories to the local Newspapers upon return.

This is a special Moroccan-American Friendship tour commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Peace Corps and 39 years of Peace Corps service in Morocco.  This trip will be first advertised to members of Friends of Morocco (where we have valid email) and we will make some telephone calls.  We will then extend the alert to other email addresses in our FOM emailing list.  We will, also, alert the 150 Peace Corps volunteers serving in Morocco and other Americans working in Morocco so they might invite their families and friends to join this caravan of RPCVs from Morocco.  Join us.
