Join us for the National Peace Corps Association’s annual gathering. We invite you all to Minneapolis, MN on the weekend of June 29-July 1, 2012 for an event that will encourage you to continue “bringing the world back home” while visiting with friends and having fun.

Celebrate five decades of Peace Corps service to Morocco by over 4500 volunteers.

Peace Corps Morocco Commemorative Book for the 50th Anniversary

Note: The Friends of Morocco events linked to the NPCA events but independent.  People are encouraged to register and attend the NPCA Peace Corps Connect: Minneapolis 2012 events, but NPCA registration is not required in order to participate in the Friends of Morocco Friday afternoon Country Update, the Friday evening restaurant meal and the Exhibit Hall over the three days.

      Friday June 29th 4:15 - 5:15 pm Friends of Morocco Country Update "State of the Bled"; Report on the Peace Corps/Morocco 50th Anniversary Celebration Memorial Day Weekend May 26-27, 2012 in Rabat; the Arab Spring impacts in Morocco. We plan dates and milk.

      Friday June 29th 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Friends of Morocco Dinner at a Jerusalem's, a local Middle Eastern restaurant, 1518 Nicollet Ave, Minneapolis,MN (612) 871-8883. with 7:30 pm belly dancing show. It is within walking distance from the Convention. Alcohol is not served but you are welcome to bring wine/beer for a small corkage fee. Please RSVP by June 25th so we can relay accurate numbers to Jerusalem's so they can accommodate FOM & guests or allow us to arrange for another venue. Friends of Tunisia and other RPCV group members may join us too as well as local Moroccan-American community. Menu and price structure TBD.

There are two other Middle Eastern restaurants close to the Convention center worth mentioning. You might want to try during the weekend. They are:
Saffron Restaurant and Lounge in the warehouse district of Minneapolis
Marhaba Mediterranean Grill, just south of Jerusalem's on Nicollet Ave Opening July 1
A little further out is Mediterrean Cruise Cafe 12500 Nicollet Ave. Burnsville, MN 55337

      The Peace Corps Connect: Minneapolis 2012 Exhibit Hall at the Minneapolis Convention Center will be open for three days from June 29 – July 1, 2012. Attendees will include returned Peace Corps volunteers, their family and friends, as well as the general public. On Sunday, July 1, the Exhibit Hall will be a part of the Peace Corps Third Goal Expo showcasing the work of Peace Corps volunteers throughout the world. The Freinds of Morocco booth will feature two Henna artists,  Victoria Welch and Tasia Islam who will demonstrate the art and (for a fee) do henna tatoos. We plan Peace Corps/Morocco videos. We would like to teach salutations in Darija, Tashlheet, and Tamazight. Volunteers needed to staff the booth in two hour time blocks. Contact Shannon Skally to volunteer.

Bring Morocco crafts, artisinal products (pottery, embroidery, rugs, thuya wood, books) you would like to donate to Friends of Morocco and we can see if we can find them a new home and raise a little money for Friends of Morocco.

We plan to do a slideshow playing in background during country group meeting idea and at the Exhibit Hall Friday through Sunday. Contributions to Urbae Jiwa Hall. We will be establishing a photo sharing/collection site and are reviewing options to be subsequently identified on this web page. Two categories 1) Peace Corps Volunteers in service and 2) images of Morocco.

Non-member rate: $175
Senior* rate: $95
Recently returned RPCV** rate: $95
Director’s Circle Activities and Conference rate: $325
*To qualify for the senior rate you must have a birth date before June 28, 1947 (Identification will be required at registration). NPCA has added this rate in response to member feedback.
**To qualify for the recently returned RPCV rate you must have a COS date after June 28, 2008 (NPCA will verify these dates).
